Some Christmas Day
November 16th 2006 15:53
I was busy that day as I rushed through the stores
I was late for a party as I searched for my cell phone
When I bumped into a small boy standing near a store window
When he looked up at me I noticed the tears
What is wrong I asked him forgetting my own thoughts
My daddy is far away
For Christmas he won’t be home
Mama cries for him
She thinks I don’t know
Please don’t tell her
But I do too.
Where is your daddy I asked?
He is fighting for his country
Just as his daddy fought
I know he is keeping away all the bad guys
But I don’t know why
Billy and Bobby have their daddies
But as for me and mama we are here alone
I don’t know why my daddy went others stay back
I don’t know why
My daddy couldn’t just stay home
I dropped to my knees by this young boy
There in the mall I told him why
Your daddy is away for you and for me
So we can always live in a land that is free
Your daddy is brave, he is strong and he is true
I know he misses his son and his wife
And for his sacrifice please tell him I say thank you
For the freedom I enjoy
As I am free to live my life
And you have made me see
That a soldier never serves alone
His family stays back and waits at home
Through holidays, birthday and tears
They stand strong and pray
For the return of their soldier some Christmas Day.
